Two of Misericordia University’s most successful athletic programs captured Middle Atlantic Conference championships.

The baseball team won its sixth straight MAC Freedom Championship Monday night with a 12-3 victory over DeSales University.

The women’s track and field team won its second straight outdoor title May 7.

Mike Westrich drove in four runs and tournament Most Valuable Player Mike Comerford drove in two in the baseball championship game.

Misericordia (34-11) moved into the American Baseball Coaches Association national rankings in 23rd place. The Cougars are ranked first in the Mid-Atlantic Region and will host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at PNC Field in Moosic, beginning May 19.

MAC Track Athlete of the Year Amy Viti set MAC championships records in both of her wins, taking the 400-meter dash in 55.96 seconds and the 800 run in 2:12.48. Reilly Wagner also won twice, taking the 100 and 400 hurdles, while three other Cougars won events.

Misericordia outscored second-place Messiah, 212-150, for the win.
