Back Mountain suffered losses in its first two games to have its season come to an end at the Pennsylvania Prep American Legion Baseball tournament July 29-30 at the Spring City American Legion Field in Royersford.
Concord broke away late to defeat Back Mountain, 14-0, in the first round, then Boyertown provided the elimination when it won, 7-5.
Back Mountain trailed Concord just, 1-0, in the fifth inning of the seven-inning game.
“We’re definitely right there with all these teams,” Back Mountain manager Mike Ropietski said. “We could have made some plays in different situations.”
Ropietski said the difference in the second game was Boyertown’s execution of small-ball tactics, combined with two balks and a catcher’s interference that added extra chances.
In the tournament opener, Max Paczewski had a single in the first inning for the only Back Mountain hit.
“We hit the ball well, but right at kids,” Ropietski said. “We only had three strikeouts, but we couldn’t hit any gaps and they made all the plays.”
The offense came around for the second game.
Ty Osipower went 3-for-4.
Connor Morgan was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Mike Ropietski had a single, walk, two runs scored and an RBI.
Ty Harden had a single and drove in a run and Drew Lojewski had an RBI fielder’s choice.
