The Misericordia University men’s athletic program enjoyed a successful week when the football team closed out the season with its only victory and the basketball team opened three days later by beating a nationally-ranked opponent.

Quarterback Jeff Krisiak finished up his career with a record-setting and award-winning effort when Misericordia topped FDU-Florham, 40-36, Nov. 12 on Senior Day at Mangelsdorf Field.

Krisiak was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for a school record 284 yards. He went 26-for-36 passing with two touchdowns, ran for 91 yards and another score and led a game-winning drive that ended with 1:11 remaining.

Sam Gillison, who caught the late game-winning touchdown pass, and Colton Pyne each set the school record for catches in a game with 12.

Jason Kenny scored a career-high 37 points and Tony Harding made his college debut with 23 points and 10 rebounds when Misericordia went on the road Tuesday to defeat 25th-ranked Susquehanna University, 120-116, in double overtime.

Cross country

Dallas graduate Regan Rome earned her second straight trip to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, which are scheduled for Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.

Rome, a junior, finished sixth in the Southeast Regional to get another shot at nationals where she earned All-American honors by finishing 25th a year ago.

Lindsey Oremus, a freshman from Dallas, placed 46th out of 185 runners at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional while leading the St. Joseph’s University team.

Dominic DeLuca, a former state champion from Dallas, was 31st out of 245 runners in the NCAA Northeast Regional.

DeLuca was the top runner for Cornell, which finished sixth of 45 teams in the regional, which was won by defending national champion Syracuse.

Lake-Lehman graduate Kieran Sutton earned a return to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships when he was the team’s top finisher as Shippensburg University won the Atlantic Region title at Slippery Rock University.

Sutton finished second overall at regionals for the second straight year. Sutton was 27th as a freshman and 19th as a sophomore before his consecutive runner-up finishes.

Ryan Zapoticky returned to the Shippensburg University football team for the finale after missing half the season with an injury.

The junior quarterback from Dallas threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-21 win over Seton Hill to help the team finish 7-4.

Zapoticky already ranks among the school’s all-time leaders in career passing with 4,150 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Men’s soccer

Danny Saba closed out his career at Gwynedd-Mercy by earning All-Colonial States Athletic Conference first-team, all-star honors as a midfielder.

Saba had 11 goals and two assists in 20 games.

The senior from Dallas was joined on the team by his younger brother, Matt, a junior forward.

Danny Saba finished his career with 22 goals and two assists while playing in 71 games, including 61 starts.

Matt Saba had three goals and two assists this season when he played in all 20 games, starting nine.
