Lake-Lehman’s Bob Lipski posted his 100th career win and came within one victory of a medal during the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Wrestling Championships March 9-11 at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Back Mountain wrestlers were competitive throughout the tournament with most of the losses coming in close and/or low-scoring decisions.

R.J. Driscoll, Lipski’s Lake-Lehman teammate, posted one win in the Class 2A tournament.

Tunkhannock’s Tom Traver had a win in the Class 3A tournament. Xavier Barber from Dallas did not win a bout, but both of his losses were by a single point.

Lake-Lehman finished 81st in the standings out of 134 teams that qualified at least one wrestler in Class 2A.

Lipski and Driscoll earned five team points for the Black Knights.

Reynolds ran away with the state title, 136 ½-88 ½, over Bishop McDevitt.

Lipski went 2-2 at 145 pounds, splitting decisions, including one win in overtime.

After losing to Freedom Area’s Kody Komara, 9-2, in the first round, Lipski stayed alive in the pursuit of third- through eight-place medals with a pair of wrestleback wins.

Lipski beat Marion Center’s Challon Cornetto, 7-4, and Penns Valley’s Jared Hurd, 6-3, in overtime.

“It felt great, especially since it was a tough match and I pulled it out at the end,” Lipski told the Times Leader after beating Cornetto for the 100th win of a career that includes freshman and sophomore seasons at Wyoming Valley West.

Nathan Haubert from Palisades eliminated Lipski, 8-0, in the third round of consolations where all winners were guaranteed a state medal for a top-eight finish.

Komara and Haubert wound up third and fourth in the tournament.

Driscoll dropped a pair of tough decisions, sandwiched around a win by a quick pin at 132.

Caleb Dowling from St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy beat Driscoll, 8-4, in overtime to begin the tournament.

Driscoll, making his second state appearance in three years, picked up a win by pinning Susquehanna Township’s Fahran Musrial in 41 seconds.

Ellwood City’s Tyler Alberts eliminated Driscoll with a 3-0 shutout.

Dowling and Alberts finished fourth and seventh in the state.

Traver scored four team points to put Tunkhannock 84th out of 129 teams in Class 3A.

The sophomore 132-pounder already has 79 career wins after going 41-5.

Like Driscoll, Traver came up with a pin in between losing two decisions.

Jobe Chishko from Penn Trafford beat Traver, 6-4. Traver pinned Waynesburg Central’s Caleb Morris in 2:27. North Allegheny’s Luke Landefeld then shut out Traver, 5-0.

Barber lost 5-4 to Pottsgrove’s Ryan Finn and 3-2 to Altoona’s Brinton Simington at 170.
