Back Mountain athletes swept the available all-state girls soccer positions from the Wyoming Valley Conference.

WVC coaches selected Samantha Mazula from Dallas and Mackenzie Love from Lake-Lehman to fill the allotted Division 1 and 2 spots on the all-state team that is being named by the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association.

Mazula leads five Dallas players on the Division 1 first-team, all-stars, as selected by the coaches.

The midfielder is joined by forward Alison Francis, midfielder Hollie Holthaus and defensemen Nora Brown and Hannah Boyd.

Lake-Lehman had Love, a forward, on the Division 2 first team, along with forward Amanda Ayers, midfielder Kyra Apaliski and defender Hallie Jenkins.

Back Mountain resident Nicole Cavanaugh, a Holy Redeemer forward, also made the team.

Dallas midfielders Olivia Kimmerle and Emma Sweitzer and defender Megan Miller made the Division 1 second team along with Tunkhannock midfielder Abby Ritz.

Lexi Concklin, Makalie Blazick, Paige Motovidlak, Sarah Salus and Abby Paczkowski represented Lake-Lehman on the second team.

Midfielders Rachel Maniskas, Kristen O’Malley, Gabriella Ramirez and Kanisha Cheshire, defender Emma Lehman and goalkeeper Rachel Nelligan received honorable mention from Dallas.

Lake-Lehman players on the honorable mention list were: Lauren Austin, Lauren Chapple, Emily Smith, Chloe Weaver and Kitt Patla.

Soccer doubleheader

Lake-Lehman’s Nick Wnuk got the scoring started in the first five minutes and his White team went on to beat the Green, 8-6, Monday night in the Wyoming Valley Conference Coaches Boys Soccer Senior Classic at Nesbitt Stadium.

Black Knights teammate Ian Dawsey added two assists in the win.

Tunkhannock’s Stefano Sica was the game’s leading scorer with four goals for the Green team.

Thomas Manzoni from Lake-Lehman was also on the White team, along with Nico Deluca, Justin Marshall and Eric Llewellyn from Dallas and Matthew Blaum, a Back Mountain resident who played at Holy Redeemer.

Chansen Brown, Andrew Tinna and Daman Williams joined Sica as Tunkhannock’s representatives on the Green.

Maniskas, Lehman and Miller from Dallas were part of the winning Orange team, which defeated the Lime, 2-1, in the girls game to open the doubleheader.

Abe Lewis, who recently announced his resignation after leading Dallas to the WVC Division 1 title, served as an assistant coach with the Orange team.

Holy Redeemer’s Cavanaugh assisted Skyler Panattieri’s goal to put the Lime ahead, 1-0, in the second half.

Lake-Lehman’s Blazick, Austin and Morgan Fedorczyk and were selected for the game but could not play because their team was still alive in the state playoffs.
