Luzerne County’s prison system remains the top departmental expense in the proposed 2026 budget, as it has been for many years.

Luzerne and Lackawanna counties have reached a tentative agreement to continue funding law enforcement at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport in Avoca, prompting cancellation of a Wednesday night public meeting to discuss the matter, according to county officials.

Luzerne County’s Redevelopment Authority is finalizing a contract with Trenton, N.J.-based Strauss & Associates/Planners to help value the county rail line assets and prepare a public request seeking offers to buy or lease the line, Authority Board Chairman Scott Linde said Tuesday.
