TUNKHANNOCK — Stephen Hendrickson, part-time Tunkhannock resident and production designer of “The Muppets Take Manhattan,” will visit the Dietrich Theater for a free showing of the film at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12.
The Nicholson Lodge #348 is sponsoring two Dietrich Theater Film Favorites series showings of the film that day, the other at 1 p.m.
Free tickets are available in advance and the day of at the ticket booth as long as they last.
In the movie, which was directed by Frank Oz, Kermit and his friends go to New York to get their musical on Broadway, only to find it’s a more difficult task than they anticipated. “The Muppets Take Manhattan” brings to the screen all of Jim Henson’s favorite characters: Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, the Swedish Chef, Ernie and Bert, Rowlf, Rizzo the Rat and more.
Hendrickson will introduce the film at the 7 p.m. showing and hold a short question and answer session after the film.
Those who visit the Dietrich Theater during the Christmas holiday know of Hendrickson’s whimsical displays, which use movement and music to charm young and old alike. He and his wife, Calista, both worked on the film. Calista, as costume designer for “The Muppet Show,” worked on the costumes for the puppets in “The Muppets Take Manhattan.”
Calista was also the costume designer for the live theater production of “Our Town” at the Dietrich, collaborating with Northeast Theatre, which became the Electric City Theater Company. She also was the costume designer for “Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas,” the free movie shown during Christmas in Our Home Town in Tunkhannock.
